Joan Kall Stewart Memorial Scholarship
Continuing a Legacy of Passion, Purpose, and Grace
Joan Kall Stewart—affectionately known as “Miss Joanie”—was the beloved founder of Sawnee School of Ballet and Sawnee Ballet Theatre. As a performer, teacher, mentor, and visionary, she shaped generations of dancers and left a lasting legacy in the Forsyth County arts community. Known for her wit, wisdom, and wholehearted belief in the power of dance, Miss Joanie inspired her students not only to become better artists but to become confident, compassionate people.
She taught well into her 78th year, and her impact continues to resonate far beyond the studio walls.
In honor of her life and lasting influence, Sawnee Ballet Theatre proudly awards the Joan Kall Stewart Memorial Scholarship each year to a company dancer who exemplifies the values she held most dear: passion, dedication, determination, and love for the art of dance.
This scholarship helps offset the cost of SBT company membership and serves as both recognition and encouragement for a dancer who reflects Miss Joanie’s spirit and commitment to excellence.
Through this scholarship, her legacy lives on—one dancer at a time.
Your contribution helps empower the next generation of dancers while honoring a woman who devoted her life to their growth and success.
